Welcome to The Anchor Point: Our Story of Hope Since 2018

Hi friend, and welcome to our new blog! I’m Lisa, and I’m so glad you’re here.

If you’ve found your way to this little corner of the internet, chances are you or someone you love is walking a path none of us ever expected to walk. Maybe you’re sitting in a chemo chair right now, scrolling on your phone between treatments. Maybe you’re a caregiver feeling overwhelmed and searching for ways to help. Or maybe you’re simply someone who believes in the power of small acts of kindness to change everything.

Wherever you are in your journey, you belong here.

How Four Friends and One Diagnosis Changed Everything

Back in August 2018, I never imagined that my ovarian cancer diagnosis would become the foundation for something beautiful. At the time, all I could see was the fear, the uncertainty, and the long road of treatment ahead. But my three friends from Fredericktown, Ohio—Joan, Mary, and Mandy—saw something different. They saw an opportunity to turn pain into purpose.

While I was navigating the messy and beautiful reality of being a cancer warrior, they were quietly planning. Not just how to support me, but how to support others walking this same difficult path. Because here’s what we learned: when you’re fighting cancer, it’s often the smallest gestures that carry the biggest impact.

That’s how Warrior Bags was born—from friendship, faith, and the belief that no one should face cancer alone.

What Started Small Has Grown Into Something Amazing

I’ll be honest with you—when we sent out our first few care packages, I never dreamed we’d reach where we are today. Nearly 2,000 bags later, we’ve had the privilege of sending hope to warriors in 48 states and 4 countries. We’ve been featured on NBC’s Today Show, received the Silver Seal of Transparency from Candid.org, and most importantly, we’ve built a community of hope that extends far beyond a single care package.

But here’s what I want you to know: every single bag is still hand-assembled with the same love and intention as that very first one. Every bag is prayed over. Every bag includes a personal note. And every bag is sent with the understanding that while we can’t take away your battle, we can remind you that you’re not fighting it alone.

More Than Just a Care Package

When people ask me what makes Warrior Bags different, I think about Sarah—the wife of Jay, who wrote to tell us that her Warrior Bag became her “everyday bag.” It wasn’t just the practical items inside (though the Tummy Drops and hand lotion certainly helped during treatment). It was knowing that someone, somewhere, cared enough to think about what she might need on the hardest days.

That’s what we’re really sending in every bag: the message that you matter, your fight matters, and you are seen.

Each bag contains thoughtfully chosen items—from the genuine leather tote that can carry you through treatment and beyond, to the breath prayer cards that offer peace in difficult moments, to the Tummy Drops that help with nausea. But more than that, each bag carries the prayers and hopes of everyone who made it possible.

What You’ll Find Here at The Anchor Point

I’ve started this blog because I believe in the power of shared stories and practical hope. Over the years, through our monthly newsletter “The Warrior Connection” and our Facebook community, I’ve learned that what people need most isn’t just encouragement (though that matters), but real, practical wisdom from someone who’s been there.

So here’s what you can expect to find here every other week:

  • Real stories from real warriors who are finding hope in the midst of hard things
  • Practical tips that actually work—from what to pack for your first chemo session to comfort foods that don’t make nausea worse
  • Behind-the-scenes glimpses of how Warrior Bags works and why we choose each item we include
  • Resources for caregivers who want to help but don’t always know how
  • Faith-rooted encouragement that meets you wherever you are in your spiritual journey
  • Community spotlights celebrating the incredible people who make this mission possible

Finding Stability in the Storm

That’s what The Anchor Point is all about—helping you find that steady place of hope when everything else feels uncertain. Cancer is a storm none of us saw coming, but it doesn’t have to define your story. Here, we believe that even in the hardest seasons, there are anchor points of grace, love, and hope that can hold you steady.

Whether that anchor point is a care package that reminds you you’re loved, a community that understands your journey, or simply knowing that someone who’s walked this path is cheering you on—you’ll find it here.

You’re Not Just a Reader—You’re Part of Our Community

Here’s something I’ve learned over the past seven years: healing happens in community. Whether you’re a cancer warrior, a caregiver, a survivor, or simply someone who believes in spreading hope, you’re not just reading this blog—you’re joining a movement.

Every time you share a post with someone who needs encouragement, every time you nominate a warrior for a bag, every time you choose hope over fear in your own life, you’re extending the ripple effect of kindness that started with four friends in a small Ohio town.

And that, friend, is how we change the world—one act of love at a time.

Let’s Walk This Road Together

I don’t know what brought you here today, but I’m grateful you came. Whether you’re in the thick of treatment, supporting someone who is, or simply looking for ways to make a difference, I hope you’ll stick around.

Because here’s what I know for sure: you are stronger than you think, more loved than you know, and never, ever alone in this fight.

Welcome to The Anchor Point. Let’s find stability in this storm together.

With love and hope,
Lisa
