The Small Wins That Carry Us Through

There are days when cancer feels like an endless mountain—steep, unforgiving, with no clear path in sight. On those days, celebrating small wins might seem trivial. Maybe even impossible. But I’m here to tell you: those tiny moments are your lifeline.

What Counts as a Small Win?

A small win isn’t about big achievements or miraculous recoveries. It’s about the moments that whisper, “You’re still here. You’re still fighting.” Maybe today that looks like:

  • Drinking an entire glass of water
  • Walking to the mailbox
  • Brushing your teeth when everything feels hard
  • Letting yourself rest without guilt
  • Laughing, even if just for a moment

The Spiritual Perspective

In my journey, I’ve learned that these small wins are sacred. They’re not just physical achievements. They’re moments of grace. Each tiny victory reminds me: “I am more than my diagnosis. I am loved. I am held.”

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”
— Zephaniah 3:17

Practical Ways to Celebrate Your Wins

Here are some ways to honor those small moments:
Keep a Win Journal: Write down one small victory each day, no matter how insignificant it might seem.
Share with Your Support Circle: Let trusted friends and family celebrate with you.
Give Yourself Grace: Some days, simply getting through is the win. And that’s more than enough.

A Word of Encouragement

Warrior, your journey is not measured by the size of your steps, but by the simple truth that you’re doing the best you can in a place you never asked to be.

You are seen. You are loved. You are carrying more strength than you know.

Anchored Here Practice: One True Sentence

Set a timer for one minute. Write down one true sentence about today.
It can be soft, honest, messy, or ordinary. Something like:

  • “Today was hard, and I kept going.”
  • “I asked for help.”
  • “I laughed once.”
  • “I rested.”

Circle the sentence when you’re done.
Let it remind you that small wins don’t have to be shiny—
they just have to be real.
